Whistler Health Care Centre

Whistler Health Care Centre provides urgent and emergency health care services to people living and visiting Whistler and along the Sea-to-Sky Highway. Onsite care from 8am – 10pm daily. After-hours on-call physicians and registered nurses are available by telephone.

Whistler Health Care Centre provides urgent and emergency health care services to people living and visiting in Whistler and along the Sea-to-Sky Highway. Home & Community Care

These services are meant to complement and supplement the support provided by family, friends, and the community, assisting individuals on both short-term and long-term bases. They aim to promote independence by enabling individuals to remain in their own homes for as long as possible, providing necessary care to prevent hospitalization or extended hospital stays. Additionally, these services offer assisted living and long-term care options for those who can no longer be supported at home, and they provide end-of-life support for individuals and their families, whether at home, in an assisted living residence, or in a long-term care facility, including hospice care.

Publicly subsidized home and community care services provide a range of health care and support services for people who have acute, chronic, palliative or rehabilitative health-care needs.

Sea to Sky Hospice Society

The Sea to Sky Hospice Society offers a range of free programs and services to help community members live well at home, hospital, in long term care or in the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation Sea to Sky Community Hospice unit.

Offering support and programs for anyone dealing with a life limiting illness, for their loved ones or for those who are grieving.

Pedal Wheelchair

The pedal wheelchair will be stored at MPSC and may be borrowed free of charge for periods of up to 3 hours, by seniors and younger adults, in accordance with procedures developed by MAC and MPSC.

The Pedal Wheelchair was purchased by MAC to benefit Whistler residents with impaired mobility and poor balance from a number of conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, strokes, or those rehabilitating from injuries or surgery.

Whistler Community Response Network (CRN)

There is a need for communities to form CRNs to provide information, advocacy, support and referrals to older adults who are dealing with issues affecting their well-being, as well as those who care for them. The CRN teaches community members how to recognize warning signs of the full spectrum of elder abuse and to respond safely and supportively…to create awareness of what can be done to uphold and protect the rights of older adults. A CRN advocates for better coordination of services and supports designated agencies in carrying out their responsibilities. The Whistler CRN will focus on elder abuse as a current and vital issue in our community. That abuse could include financial/economic issues, physical or sexual or physiological/mental abuse, verbal/emotional abuse and cultural/identity abuse.

A Community Response Network (CRN) is a diverse group of concerned community members, service providers, agencies, businesses and professionals who come together to create a coordinated community response to adult abuse, neglect, and self-neglect.

Making Connections

The goal is to slow cognitive decline in the afflicted and to allow caregivers to bond, share experiences and develop their own support networks. Each session starts with 45 minutes of gentle fitness, followed by games and brain stimulating activities, music, and socializing over a light lunch. To many, it is the high point of their week as they make new friends and have fun.

MAC’s Making Connections is a weekly program for people with dementia and their caregivers in the Sea to Sky Corridor.

The Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program

The Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program (FMNCP) is a healthy eating initiative that supports farmers’ markets and strengthens food security across British Columbia. Community partner organizations provide seniors participating in their food literacy programs and can be used to purchase vegetables, fruits, nuts, eggs, dairy, herbs, vegetable & fruit plants, honey, meat and fish. You must contact the organization in your community directly to inquire about for Program availability, eligibility requirements and application information. PearlSpace (formerly the Howe Sound Women’s Centre Society) is dedicated to preventing violence against women, Two Spirit, gender-diverse, non-binary, trans people, and children/youth by providing inclusive, supportive services to individuals and communities within the Sea to Sky corridor and Stl’atl’imx regions.

Outreach Workers provide no-cost, confidential support for those experiencing challenges with mental health, financial insecurity, advocacy, physical health and injury, housing, food insecurity, substance use, employment, relationships, parenting support or violence in relationships. WCSS also operates Activate and Connect for seniors 55+.

The Distress Phone Services provide confidential, non-judgmental, free emotional support, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for people experiencing feelings of distress or despair.

HealthLink BC 8-1-1 Services

Health Link BC’s 811 is a vital healthcare service in British Columbia. It offers confidential health information and advice. When you call 8-1-1 you will be connected with a health service navigator. They can provide you with health information, help you navigate the health care system and find health services across the province, or connect you with a registered nurse, registered dietitian, qualified exercise professional, or pharmacist. Navigators are available any time of the day or night, every day of the year. It’s a valuable resource for non-emergency medical concerns.

A free-of-charge provincial health information and advice phone line, operated by HealthLink BC, which is part of the Ministry of Health. Translation services are available in over 130 languages.

Registered Nurses

HealthLink BC’s registered nurses provide non-emergency, confidential health education and advice and can help you with non-emergency health concerns, to discuss symptoms and procedures, and to recommend whether you should see a health care provider in person. They can help you check your symptoms, determine if you should seek further medical attention and provide education about your illness.  Whether you are looking for information on how to treat the flu or need advice about a new diagnosis or chronic illness, you can get help at any time of the day or night, every day of the year, by calling 8-1-1 to ask a registered nurse your health questions.

Dietitians

Dietitians are available to provide information, education and counselling support, whether you have a food and nutrition question or need help managing a health condition. They can help by answering a range of questions about foods, nutrients, supplements, food safety and food security. They can also provide individualized nutrition care plans to help with health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, cancer, gastrointestinal conditions and food allergies.

Pharmacists

Pharmacists can answer your medication related questions such as: What are the common side effects of your medication? How soon will the medication work? What should you do if you miss a dose? Can you take over-the-counter medications (including natural health products) with your prescription? How should you store your medication?

Qualified exercise professionals at Physical Activity Services provide information, guidance and support to residents of British Columbia to help them be more physically active and lead healthier lifestyles.

How Occupational Therapists can help you age in place.

The Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) is the national organization that supports more than 20,000 occupational therapists (OTs), occupational therapist assistants (OTAs) and students who work or study in Canada. An OT can help facilitate aging in place by recommending home modifications and adaptations and devices.
