The Mature Action Community (MAC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of community members aged 55+ in Whistler. Our organization runs on the combined energy, knowledge, creativity, and volunteerism of residents who call Whistler home, either full- or part-time. Whether you are beginning to think about your retirement in 10 years, are a caregiver to a senior, a supportive family member looking for help, or are a person 55+ seeking ways to live and age well in place, MAC welcomes you.
MAC was founded as a non-profit Society in 1995, in response to some of the challenges faced by community members who wished to remain in Whistler as they grow older.
We recognize that seniors have contributed many working years within the community and elsewhere, and continue to benefit Whistler as they:
- Provide a valuable historic knowledge of the community
- Typically have a high degree of community volunteerism
- Provide greater demographic diversity
- Contribute to stronger family and social structures; and
- Generally have time and energy to commit to a project or cause.
Our Vision
Whistler is an inclusive, supportive community where residents can actively and comfortably age in place.
Our Mission
We connect, engage and advocate for Whistler seniors.
Our Values
Collaboration, Fun, Accountability, Inclusion, Respect
Over the last three decades, MAC has become widely recognized as the trusted source of information for Whistler citizens 55+ by community organizations, local businesses, the RMOW, Whistler Mayor and Council, and community members of all ages.
While the original goal of MAC was to secure affordable housing so that older residents could age in place and stay in the Whistler community, our organization and priorities have evolved and expanded greatly. Our focus now includes areas of advocacy, supportive services (housing, transport, public spaces, municipal planning), health and wellbeing (health care, home supports, recreation, culture, education and social), and promoting values of inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility.
